My research interests largely revolve around sustainable operations management, utility optimization and Operations Research. More specifically, I focus on the areas of waste management, disaster operations management, collaborative logistics, and supply chain emissions and energy efficiency considerations. My research therefore involves modeling real-world applications in the aforementioned fields, and developing innovative optimization techniques to solve these models. In the field of waste management, I study how best to design waste management systems to achieve sustainable recycling objectives. In the field of disaster operations management, I study operations for different preparedness, emergency response and mitigation measures, such as pre-positioning of strategic reserves, debris management and infrastructure reinforcement. In the context of collaborative logistics, I study how similar stakeholders can best engage in horizontal collaboration within the supply chain. To this end, I borrow from the insurance literature well-established mechanisms for sharing costs, benefits and risks, and apply them to operational contexts. Finally, in the context of taking the environment and energy efficiency into account in the supply chain, I look at how to plan the various supply chain activities (machines, scheduling, lot sizes, distribution, etc.).
